Best Diapers for the Price

When I first became a mom, a little over two years ago, I had no idea what I was doing. In many areas of motherhood, everything seemed foreign to me, but especially diapers. Like many other first time moms, I did not know which diapers were the best, how much to pay for them, or even where to buy them to get the most for my money. Now that I am on baby number two, who is nearly 8 months old, I have had quite a bit of experience buying diapers. Buying diapers is a lot like buying shoes. I can tell you what I like and what is comfortable, but you might think otherwise and have a different opinion. Then again, we’re not the ones wearing the diapers, so who really knows? haha!
I have put together a list of diapers that are the most common and the best places to purchase them. Since I have tried mostly all of them, I am sharing my thoughts and opinions on them and their prices at the most popular stores. I understand that not everyone is trying to save money like me and that many of you might not have had the same experiences with them either. I'm just sharing what I wish I would have read when I was a first time mom a few years ago. My hope is to share with you my experience buying diapers, diaper quality, price, and overall preference. I hope this helps you with your future diaper purchases!

Since diaper prices vary according to the sizing and amount of diapers, I will be basing all prices off of the size 1 diaper size. Below you will see a list of common stores and their listing price of the diapers they carry.
1. Pampers
Pampers Swaddlers are wonderful diapers. They are super soft and durable. If I were a baby, I would like to imagine that these would probably feel the best to wear. These are always the diapers I start my baby out on when they are a newborn. The hospital I had my kids at always provided these and I continued to use them for the next few months of their life. The only downside I saw to these diapers is that my kids would always have blowouts in them. The back of the diaper is not very tight and I would always have poop going up their backside. Since they are great diapers, that means they are definitely a tad pricey. I would have used them the whole time with both of my children, but when I ran out of diapers from my showers, I switched to cheaper diapers. Sams Club has blown the rest of the stores out of the water with their deal on Pampers diapers!
Walmart- $39.94 for 164 diapers (25 cents a piece)
Amazon- $48.28 for 198 diapers (24 cents a piece) subscribe - $45.87 (23 cents a piece)
Sams- $38.98 for 192 diapers (20 cents a piece)
Target- $34.99 for 148 diapers (23 cents a piece)
2. Pampers Pure
This brand was not available when my son was a baby and I have yet to try it with my 8 month old daughter. However, since Pampers is a top brand, I am quick to assume that this line of diapers is just as good as the Swaddlers line. The Pampers Pure line is free of chlorine bleach, parabens and fragrances. If you have a child with sensitive skin then I would suggest trying this brand out. The cheapest place to find Pampers Pure diapers is at Sams Club once again!
Walmart- $37.00 for 108 diapers (34 cents a piece)
Amazon- $37.00 for 108 diapers (34 cents a piece) subscribe - $35.15 (33 cents a piece)
Sams- $44.98 for 164 diapers (27 cents a piece)
Target- $24.99 for 74 diapers (33 cents a piece)
3. Huggies
Over the last couple of years, my love for Huggies has greatly improved. The Snugglers brand is by far my favorite line from Huggies. What makes me prefer them more than Pampers Swaddlers is that the back of the diaper has an elastic band that stretches with the baby when they move. The band is what makes this my top diaper because I have yet to have had a blowout from a Huggies diaper up the back. They are just as soft as pampers and are always a tad bit cheaper! The price and quality is why I always find myself going back to them. They are also great at holding all of the pee throughout the night and do not leak either. I found the cheapest diapers at Target for 16 cents a piece!
Walmart- $38.99 for 216 diapers (18 cents a piece)
Amazon- $38.99 for 216 diapers (18 cents a piece) subscribe - $37.04 (17 cents a piece)
Sams- $39.98 for 204 diapers (19 cents a piece)
Target- $45.99 for 276 diapers (16 cents a piece)
4. Luvs
I have a love/hate relationship with Luvs diapers. Luvs are very much a lower quality diaper than Pampers or Huggies, but SO much cheaper! I love to use them during the day when I can change them more often, but at night time I try to stick with a higher quality diaper for leakage reasons. They are not as soft as other diapers but they are not rough by any means. I do also find that they do not absorb baby poop as fast as other diapers If money is a concern for you, then I would suggest trying Luvs out! If you find the diaper leaking throughout the night then use a Huggies/Pampers diaper at nighttime. Target scored the cheapest price again!
Walmart- $27.59 for 252 diapers (11 cents a piece)
Amazon- $27.59 for 252 diapers (11 cents a piece) subscribe - $26.21(10 cents a piece)
Sams- $29.98 for 252 diapers (11 cents a piece)
Target- $22.99 for 210 diapers (10 cents a piece)
5. Honest
These diapers are so stinking cute! I absolutely love the way they look. I wanted so badly to use these for my son when he was a baby, but financially, my husband and I could not afford the diapers since we were just starting out. I really like how the diaper company offers a subscription that will send you a months supply of diapers and wipes to your front door. You can choose for a subscription to be delivered every 4,5, or 6 weeks. This is a huge convenience when you have a small baby and really don’t prefer getting out to go buy diapers. However, I was very disappointed with the quality of the diaper. Maybe I just had a bad experience with them, but after only a few hours of wearing them, they leaked on my sons clothes. Also, I expected them to feel a lot more soft, like a Snugglers/Swaddlers. BUT THEY ARE SO CUTE, RIGHT? If cuteness is a concern for you, and the subscription earns some brownie points, then I would try them out. They are eco-friendly and very much one of the priciest brands of diapers, so be prepared to spend some extra money on them. The subscription is the best way to go since it will save you a lot more than just buying individual diapers.
Honest- $79.95 per shipment - 4 packs of wipes & 6 packs of diapers (26 cents a piece)
Target- $25.99 for 80 diapers (32 cents a piece)
6. Member’s Mark
If you have a Sam’s club near you, then I would consider buying a yearly membership($45) to get a good deal on diapers in bulk. Their generic brand of diapers is by far my favorite kind of diapers to buy. I would best describe them as in between a Pampers and a Luvs diaper, but more towards the Pampers side of it. For the price, the diaper is phenomenal. I have never had a blowout with them, either. They do run a bit big in size compared to other brands so I have to make sure I read the fine print to see the weight for the diapers. The only time I have had leakage problems with these diapers is at night and this is only if the diaper was a little big for my baby and they were still growing into them.
Sams- $23.98 for 176 diapers (13 cents a piece)
7. Target Off Brand
What mom doesn’t like Target?? The next time you are browsing through the isles with your Starbucks, take a closer look at Target’s generic brand because they very much surprised me! They are great too! They are another option that are in the middle ground of a Luvs and Pampers diaper. The price is what I love the most and I always find myself going back to them time and time again...or maybe it's because I am always finding myself at Target?
Target- $21.99 for 176 diapers (12 cents a piece)
8. Aldi-Little Journeys
Anybody who knows me knows that I am a huge Aldi supporter. I love the store for their high quality items for their low price. This diaper is very similar to Luvs, but I actually prefer it slightly more. The price is so great, especially if you are trying to save in the diaper department. However, not everyone has an Aldi near them, so it is not convenient for everyone to buy them. The next time you are near an Aldi and need diapers, pop in and buy a package!
Aldi- $3.99 for 44 diapers (9 cents a piece)
9. Seventh Generation
I have not tried these diapers myself. Mainly because of the price, but for someone who is looking for another eco friendly and clean diaper, then this is a good option. You can buy them off of Amazon, Walmart and Target, but be prepared to spend some extra money on them. They are some of the priciest diapers I have seen.
Walmart- $28.47 for 102 diapers (28 cents a piece)
Amazon- $44.66 for 160 diapers (28 cents a piece) subscribe - $42.43 (27 cents a piece)
Target- $28.99 for 102 diapers (28 cents a piece)
10. Mama Bear
Sadly, I have never tried these either, but I always see them on Amazon and they have really great reviews! The only con I have seen to the diapers is that they do not have an elastic band on the back and this leads to blowouts and leaks. The price is also very close to other name brand diapers. For the quality, I’m not sure if they are worth it, but they are worth the try!
Amazon- $38.99 for 216 diapers (18 cents a piece) subscribe - $37.04 (17 cents a piece)
11. H-E-B baby
I realize that not everyone lives in Texas, and not everyone in Texas lives near an HEB...BUT next time you are there, please try their diapers! They are wonderful and very much remind me of a Huggies Snugglers diaper. I really only find myself buying them if I am in HEB shopping, but I do not have any complaints about them either.
H-E-B- $4.98 for 44 diapers (11 cents a piece)
12. Parent's Choice
I understand that money is usually always a concern for everyone, but in my opinion, the Great Value brand is just not a great diaper. It is not soft and not very absorbent and totally lacks in the high quality department. You do get what you pay for and I would suggest saving yourself the money because you’re not going to be as satisfied as you would with other brands. Ouch. I know, that was harsh, but I'm warning you.
Walmart- $38.62 for 416 diapers (10 cents a piece)
Thanks for sticking around! Let me know in the comments below what your favorite diapers are and where you can find the best deal on them!
